Occupation-related mentoring helps skilled newcomers understand Canadian professional culture, strengthen networks and plan a job search. The provider lists permanent resident or landed immigrant status, relevant education and experience, limited Canadian experience and English around CLB 7 among its conditions. Mentees should be ready to commit during business hours and prepare a resume and credential assessment. Cohorts and mentor matching depend on the programme; neither mentoring nor admission guarantees employment.

Community English and digital literacy can strengthen the foundational skills needed for work, training and everyday life. ECALA classes span several English levels; some beginners sessions are online with Chinese language support, while the listed ELL classes meet at the LINC building. Ask about placement, current intake and digital-class times. These are learning opportunities rather than a placement agency, and separate fee-based English or test preparation offers should not be confused with funded classes.

Alberta’s public career resource brings together resume and cover-letter advice, interview preparation, job-search methods and guidance for changing circumstances. It also links career coaching and other support options. Use it to prepare an Edmonton job search and then check requirements directly with the employer or relevant service. Reading a guide does not establish work authorisation, professional licensing or eligibility for a funded programme.

The federal Job Bank combines newcomer job-search guidance with links about credentials, language learning, settlement and the Social Insurance Number. Search the current Edmonton area and read each employer’s requirements. An employer’s interest in newcomers does not replace a valid right to work or any occupational licence. Some matching features require an account, while public information and job browsing can help prepare a search without assuming a job offer.

The provincial apprenticeship guide explains how to choose a trade, check programme requirements and apply for apprenticeship education. It connects readers with trade-specific details, sponsorship and prior-learning routes. Check the rules for the chosen Alberta trade before paying for training or relying on overseas experience. Entry requirements, examinations, tuition and immigration or work conditions differ; an information page is not a promise of a sponsor, paid placement or certification.

Internationally trained workers can use this federal guide to identify the regulator for a profession or compulsory trade in Alberta. Recognition and licensing are separate from permission to immigrate or work. The page links occupation tools, support services and credential-recognition loans; loans are repayable assistance subject to provider conditions rather than an automatic grant. Costs and requirements vary, so contact the correct Alberta regulator early and compare the actual support terms.

Alberta describes transition support for unemployed or underemployed adults and people facing an imminent layoff. Services may include assessment, job-search skills, work experience and employer connections through local providers. Alberta residence, legal entitlement to work and other programme conditions need to be checked with the agency. Use the provider directory to locate a current Edmonton option; the programme is not an automatic cash payment or a guarantee of placement.

Kids Kottage invites families to call when a child faces a crisis such as unsafe sleeping arrangements, lack of basic needs or a caregiver fearing loss of control. Staff assess the situation and the appropriate help; a call does not guarantee a shelter space or replace emergency medical care. The shelter and administration buildings have separate addresses. For immediate danger call 911. Call the crisis line first so staff can explain the current access arrangements.

Terra is a nonprofit supporting teen parents and their children with practical, educational and family services. Ask how to connect with the right worker and whether support is provided at Terra West, through Braemar School or another programme. Its own site describes free, non-judgemental programmes, with participation and arrangements assessed for each family. School attendance, childcare, home support and office reception follow different schedules; call the relevant team rather than assuming every location offers the same drop-in service.

KARA provides free family learning, parenting support, early childhood activities, developmental screening and help navigating community services. Its current main and programme pages give the 134A Avenue address; older pages and partner directories still show 6717 132 Avenue, so confirm the current meeting location. The quarterly programme guide determines individual sessions and registration. Family navigator drop-ins are distinct from office hours, and an initial enquiry can help identify the right support without assuming that every activity has spaces.

BGC Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton and Area connects children and youth with mentoring, after-school activities and supportive relationships. Families can ask about the programme suited to a child’s age, circumstances and neighbourhood, including community partnerships serving newcomer families. Enrolment, matching and any waiting periods are assessed individually. Riverdale handles child and volunteer enrolment, while McCauley also houses a club; administrative hours should not be read as a child activity or supervision timetable.

The publicly funded Family Resource Network offers free parenting education, home visitation, family support and connections with partner organisations in north central Edmonton. Check the service area and the age range for the particular support, as home visitation and support for older children are different programmes. The current programme and contact pages do not give a standing FRN reception timetable; arrange contact with the hub. The host YMCA’s longer recreation building hours are not family-worker availability, and old workshop booklets do not establish current appointment times.

Kikosewin offers Indigenous-centred family, child development, caregiver, youth and cultural connection programmes, including home visitation and individual support. The provider says its programmes and events are free; ask which intake and activity fits your family. Bent Arrow’s wider work welcomes people seeking support through an Indigenous lens, while individual programme conditions still matter. The own main, contact and programme pages publish no general reception schedule, so arrange a visit and check the current calendar rather than inferring office hours.

This municipal centre provides swimming, fitness, an indoor play space and registered or drop-in activities for different ages. Admission and some instructor-led programmes are paid, with separate membership and assistance arrangements. Check the amenity schedule, age supervision and lesson registration rather than relying only on building hours. The current page announces a MoveLearnPlay account requirement for regular patrons and After-school Youth Pass holders from November 2026, while public lobby access remains separate.
Telephone, text and online support across Canada; this is not a walk-in counselling address.
Professional telephone counselling: 1-800-668-6868. Text CONNECT to 686868 for a trained volunteer crisis responder.
Telephone counselling 24/7. Professional live chat 19:00–24:00 Eastern Time; text/online crisis response is a separate channel.
Young people can talk with a professional counsellor by phone or use the service’s text and online support options. Texting CONNECT to 686868 reaches a trained volunteer crisis responder, which is distinct from professional telephone or scheduled live-chat counselling. The own site includes newcomer resources and multiple-language telephone support. Use the stated Eastern Time for chat availability rather than assuming local Alberta hours. For immediate danger or an emergency requiring dispatch, call 911.
Provincial telephone intake; identify the Edmonton region when prompted. No walk-in intake address is assumed.
1-800-638-0715; from elsewhere in the world: 00-1-780-427-9485; immediate danger: 911.
Provincial intake available 24 hours daily, in multiple languages.
The provincial intake line receives concerns about a child or youth at risk. Call the line and identify your region; you do not need every detail before raising a concern. The page explains what staff may ask and the options when the line is busy. Online referral forms are directed to police and other professionals and are not a substitute for an urgent call. Use 911 for immediate danger. This is a child protection contact, distinct from ordinary parenting classes or an application for childcare.

The CRA guide explains who can apply for the Canada child benefit, how payments are calculated, the application process and how to keep information current. Residence, caregiver responsibilities, immigration status, shared custody and family income can affect eligibility or the amount. Check the newcomer guidance and the required supporting documents rather than assuming every family automatically qualifies after arrival. Filing taxes and reporting relevant changes are part of maintaining benefits; this page is a guide, not an approval decision.

Families can distinguish first-time school registration from annual pre-enrolment for current students and review kindergarten, high school and special admission arrangements. The division says families moving to Edmonton can register online once they are living in the city. School capacity, boundaries, lotteries and entrance criteria can affect placement, so check the intended school and current deadlines. An online submission does not promise the preferred school, and international student arrangements follow a separate process.

Emergency department and hospital service 24/7. Outpatient clinics have individual schedules. AHS states Edmonton-zone visiting arrangements follow patient wishes and care needs; confirm with the ward.
The Royal Alexandra is a public acute-care hospital serving inner-city Edmonton and a wider referral region. Emergency care is triaged by clinical urgency, with no guaranteed waiting time. Use the hospital switchboard to locate a department, and check the relevant clinic’s referral and appointment requirements. Hospital and emergency access are separate from visiting arrangements or outpatient hours. Bring available health coverage information, but do not assume that all services are insured for every immigration or residence status.

Switchboard/emergency service contact: 780-407-8822; emergency service fax: 780-407-3695; emergency dispatch: 911.
Emergency department 24 hours daily. Clinic appointments and visiting arrangements are separate; ask the relevant unit.
This public academic hospital provides emergency, specialist and referral care, with associated heart and outpatient services in the university hospital area. The emergency department sees the most seriously ill patients first; published estimates cannot promise an individual wait. Specialist and ambulatory care normally have their own referral and booking arrangements. Use the exact department and campus map rather than assuming every appointment is in the emergency building, and check coverage or uninsured charges for your circumstances.

Emergency and emergency admitting 24/7. Main admitting Mon–Fri 06:30–21:15; weekends/holidays 09:00–17:15. Outpatient and visiting arrangements vary by service.
Covenant Health operates this publicly funded west Edmonton hospital with round-the-clock emergency care. Its dedicated page places the new emergency department on the south side, while the general hospital page still describes west-side emergency admitting; follow current emergency signs and confirm directions. Some Mother Rosalie Centre clinics use 16930 rather than 16940 87 Avenue. Scheduled clinics, admitting and visiting have separate access rules, and public funding does not establish coverage for every patient or service.

Emergency and emergency admitting 24/7. Main admitting Mon–Fri 07:00–21:15; weekends/holidays 09:00–17:15. Clinics and visiting have separate arrangements.
This Covenant Health hospital serves southeast Edmonton with emergency, maternity, mental health, surgical and other acute-care services. Emergency patients are triaged according to severity rather than arrival order. Ask the correct unit about referrals, scheduled appointments, interpretation and visiting arrangements. The hospital lists a distinct northeast emergency entrance, while some clinics use neighbouring buildings. Public funding does not mean every test, medicine or service is automatically covered for every resident or visitor.
8440 112 Street, Edmonton, AB T6G 2B7. Children’s emergency entrance is on the east side of the university hospital complex.
Switchboard: 780-407-8822; emergency dispatch: 911; non-emergency health advice: 811.
Emergency department 24/7. The own Stollery contact page lists visiting 11:00–20:00; broader AHS Edmonton-zone guidance uses patient-centred visiting. Confirm the current ward arrangement.
The Stollery provides specialist children’s hospital and emergency care within the university hospital complex. Its own emergency guidance explains clinical triage and the east-side entrance; bring the child’s available health card and medication information when possible. Emergency access is distinct from outpatient appointments and family visits. The contact page and broader AHS visiting guidance differ, so ask the care unit about current visiting rather than treating a general timetable as universal permission.

Switchboard: 780-342-4000; fax: 780-342-4100; emergency dispatch: 911.
Emergency service 24 hours daily. Other outpatient clinics and diagnostics have their own hours and access requirements; visiting follows patient care needs.
This public northeast Edmonton health centre combines a 24-hour emergency department with outpatient and ambulatory services. It is not simply a daytime walk-in clinic, and its emergency availability does not extend to every service in the building. Ask the appropriate programme about referrals and appointments for non-emergency care. Emergency patients are assessed by urgency, and neither a listing nor an estimated wait guarantees immediate treatment or insurance coverage.

Urgent care Mon–Fri 17:00–22:00; Sat–Sun 08:00–22:00. Capacity limits can close intake earlier: telephone before arrival. Other services and patient-information hours differ.
This public urgent-care service treats unexpected, non-life-threatening concerns requiring same-day or evening attention. The official facility page warns that high demand and complex cases can cause earlier closure to new patients, so check before travelling. Patients are prioritised by clinical need and no wait is guaranteed. Do not substitute the longer patient-information or building timetable for actual urgent-care hours; use 911 for a life-threatening emergency.

Formerly Boyle McCauley Health Centre, Radius is a nonprofit community clinic for vulnerable Edmontonians facing barriers to care. Its multidisciplinary primary care and outreach differ from a hospital emergency department. The own contact page warns that access for new patients is very limited and may be unavailable at times; call to discuss service criteria or referral options. Door-closing times are earlier than the listed clinical closing time, and the telephone lunch break should be considered when contacting the clinic.

Public health nurses provide immunisation, parent and infant support, health education, screening and referrals at this north Edmonton location. Ask about the specific clinic, appointment requirements and any eligibility or record information needed. It is a public health service rather than a general emergency department or a promise of walk-in primary care. The detailed service record publishes weekday hours, while a broader location listing has no timetable; use the service-specific record and confirm the session before travelling.

This privately operated pharmacy offers published evening access on weekdays, providing one option when daytime counters have closed. Ask the pharmacist about current dispensing, appointment needs, prescription requirements and charges before relying on a visit. Store/pharmacy and postal-counter hours are explicitly different. This is not a guaranteed 24-hour rota, and specialist pharmacy services or a medicine’s availability should be confirmed directly; emergency medical care is a separate service.

Health Link provides nurse advice, health information and help navigating appropriate Alberta services. It can explain local care options and connect callers with relevant support, while access to a particular virtual or specialist service is assessed separately. Use the Alberta contact arrangements rather than applying another province’s telephone rules. The service does not guarantee an appointment, a diagnosis by website or immediate treatment; call 911 for a life-threatening emergency.

Check provincial health insurance eligibility, registration, personal health cards and changes to an existing account. The guide explains that eligible residents must register and that coverage does not include every expense, with prescription drugs, dental and vision care often needing other arrangements. Status, residence, document validity and moving circumstances matter. Use the current eligibility and temporary-resident guidance for your situation; arrival in Edmonton or access to a public hospital does not automatically establish coverage.

The former Alberta Find a Doctor address redirects to this provider-focused service; urgent advice and emergencies use separate channels.

IRCC explains limited temporary health coverage for eligible groups until provincial or territorial insurance applies or another end condition is reached. Federal temporary insurance is distinct from Alberta’s health card programme.

Civida manages community and affordable housing and administers rent-assistance programmes in the Edmonton area. Ask which programme matches your household, income, status and housing circumstances, and check documents, priority rules and waiting arrangements. Its current contact page limits main-office in-person appointments to Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, while telephone or virtual contact is available on other weekdays. Existing tenants should use their district team for repairs and tenancy matters; applying does not guarantee an immediate home or benefit.

Coordinated Access helps people at risk of or experiencing homelessness connect with appropriate housing and support programmes. Screening, prioritisation and referrals depend on needs and available resources, rather than guaranteeing a unit. The current own service page explicitly says housing intake is not available in person at the main office. Use telephone contact or the dated community schedule; the October library sessions should not be assumed permanent, and this intake is separate from emergency shelter access.

The Alberta Tenant Legal Advice Clinic offers free 45-minute legal coaching appointments for eligible renters with Alberta housing issues, including eviction, deposits and minimum housing standards. Bissell’s housing services include help navigating subsidised housing, housing-related financial resources, Community Bridge prevention and Housing First support. Intensive support and coordinated intake have their own eligibility and prioritisation; a general enquiry is not an offer of accommodation or money. Ask about the relevant housing-support route and any documents needed for an assessment.

The Bruce Reith Centre offers shelter and community access to free meals, hygiene, nursing and housing or income-support navigation. Ask about current intake and capacity; shelter availability does not guarantee a bed. The meal overview’s earlier start times match the detailed hub’s senior/low-mobility priority windows. The detailed lunch line has an apparent AM/PM typo, and laundry starts earlier than the general hub timetable, so confirm these arrangements directly. Public hub access, clinic hours, shelter access and emergency response have different schedules.

WIN House provides safety, shelter-related support and resources for people fleeing violence, including help for those who are not currently shelter residents. Call the helpline to discuss needs and current options; admission and availability are assessed, and an administrative mailing address should not guide a shelter visit. The service also publishes safety-planning and rights resources. If someone is in immediate danger, use 911; the general administration number has a different role from the round-the-clock help line.

YESS provides emergency youth shelter, basic needs and connections to housing, medical and mental health supports. Its current own page distinguishes the 15–21 shelter age range from daytime resources for ages 15–24. Ask about access and capacity, because a 24-hour service does not promise an available bed. Support is based at Whyte Avenue rather than the separate administration office; the daytime programme schedule should be confirmed directly and not inferred from shelter opening hours.

Compare Alberta’s longer-term Rent Assistance Benefit with the Temporary Rent Assistance Benefit for eligible working households or people between jobs. Income, status, existing assistance and local provider rules matter, and the temporary benefit has additional conditions and a time limit. Edmonton applications are handled through the relevant housing provider, with prioritisation and available resources affecting access. A provincial description does not promise approval, immediate payment or a subsidised unit.

CMHC’s newcomer hub provides rental and home-buying information in several languages, including guides about inspecting a property, signing a lease and maintaining a home. Use these as practical preparation for an Edmonton housing search, then check current Alberta tenancy rules and the actual landlord or lender’s terms. National educational material is not individual legal or mortgage advice and does not guarantee an affordable listing, financing or eligibility for local assistance.

Use the City’s current bus brochures, LRT information and trip tools to plan an Edmonton journey. Route schedules change several times each year and temporary closures, replacement buses or school-day variations can affect a trip. Choose the correct direction, stop and day, and allow for a connection rather than treating a timetable as a guaranteed arrival. The page also links late-night and regional services, whose operating hours and fares differ from ordinary local routes.

Compare local ETS cash, Arc and ticket options, daily or monthly caps and concessions before travelling. Children, youth, seniors and students have different conditions, and a concession may need to be activated or documented. Regional journeys and the airport route have distinct rules; an ETS multi-day pass is not automatically valid on another operator. Read the current tariff and check any conflicting older FAQ text against the dated route-specific information. Arc assistance is available at 1-888-302-0001.

DATS supports Edmonton residents unable to use conventional transit because of a qualifying disability, with individual assessment and registration. Eligibility may apply only to particular times or trips, and reservations depend on capacity. Ask about mobility aids, required attendants and the correct fare; accessible transit is not an emergency medical transport service. Vehicle operating hours, booking hours and the longer cancellation or late-ride line are different, and older newsletters should not replace the current service page.

Route 747 connects Century Park with the airport, with outlet-mall and Costco stops on the return journey. The current route page states a 6 CAD one-way cash or airport Arc fare from February 2026, applying to all passengers, and a separate airport fare cap. Older general FAQs still mention 5 CAD, so use the dated route tariff and confirm current terms. Ordinary ETS and regional transfer rules are not interchangeable. The Language Assessment, Referral and Counselling Centre helps newcomers identify their English level and suitable training, including referrals to language classes. The English-services page also describes conversation opportunities and information about training or student finance. Arrange the appropriate assessment before enrolling with a provider that requires it. CSS asks clients to bring immigration documents and says a driver’s licence is not accepted for that purpose. Confirm the particular programme’s eligibility and appointment arrangements.

ASSIST provides several English and literacy streams for eligible adult newcomers. Obtain the required language assessment through Catholic Social Services, then ask which level, delivery format and available place match the assessment. Funded LINC is free for eligible participants, rather than an unrestricted free course for every resident or international student. Its dedicated programme address is 820 Saddleback Road, distinct from ASSIST’s other offices. Federal eligibility changes for economic-class permanent residents are date-dependent; check the current IRCC rules before relying on an older summary.

It advertises starts every two months subject to space. The current requirements call for permanent-resident status and an appropriate assessment from Catholic Social Services; verify the current intake and federal eligibility rules. Eligible LINC students do not pay tuition. The programme is unavailable to international students and does not provide a post-graduation work permit route.

AHC offers individual and group settlement support in the Greater Edmonton area, helping people navigate housing, utilities, health, government services and community connections. Ask which English- or French-language support and learning programme fits the household’s needs. Its broader community programmes serve several newcomer groups, but funding and access differ by service; a general welcome statement is not proof of eligibility for every funded course. The provider’s own pages publish conflicting office schedules, so confirm the relevant appointment directly.

ICWA advertises beginner and advanced English alongside digital-literacy classes and settlement-related support. The provider’s 2026/27 timetable distinguishes weekday beginner English from the Saturday advanced class, and lists different computer levels on Monday, Friday and Sunday. Ask about registration, eligibility, current availability and any charges before attending. Normal office closure on weekends does not cancel the separately advertised weekend classes; confirm how to enter for the class. The organisation’s name is Indo-Canadian Women’s Association.

Francophonie Canadienne Plurielle supports French-speaking newcomers through settlement guidance, school and housing connections, tax-related assistance and community activities. The Edmonton branch also describes conversational English workshops. Contact the appropriate local office to check registration, language, eligibility and the timetable for the requested service. The Edmonton pages list both Cité Francophone and Northgate locations. Opening times shown for FRAP offices in other Alberta cities have not been assigned to Edmonton.

ECALA’s directory helps adults find Edmonton community learning organisations offering foundational English, literacy, numeracy, digital or family learning. Search by the relevant type of learning and follow the actual agency’s programme details. A funded organisation’s inclusion does not mean that every class is free or open to every applicant. Check the current dates, level, accessibility, delivery format and registration conditions with the provider; an older lookbook or calendar entry is not a guarantee of an available place.

Use the location and interest filters to explore volunteering opportunities in Edmonton and nearby communities. Listings describe organisations, tasks and time commitments, offering a way to practise communication and build local connections. Check age, training, screening, accessibility and any required checks directly with the host. Volunteering is not paid employment, a guaranteed placement or an immigration-status entitlement. Choose a role whose duties and schedule are clear, and confirm whether any participation costs apply.

Find federally funded settlement providers outside Quebec and narrow the results to Edmonton and the service needed. Eligibility depends on immigration category. Since 1 April 2026, economic-class permanent residents and accompanying dependants generally have six years from permanent-resident status to use these services; this becomes five years from 1 April 2027. Other eligible groups have different rules, while Canadian citizens are not eligible for federally funded settlement services. Ask about local alternatives if this funding route does not apply.

The federal guide explains funded English LINC and French CLIC classes, assessment and common delivery options. Eligible learners may study full- or part-time, onsite or online where a provider offers that format. Some programmes provide transport or childminding support, which must be confirmed locally. Read the current settlement-eligibility page alongside this older general guide, especially the date-dependent limits for economic-class permanent residents. A provider still determines the suitable level, intake and available place.

Mauril uses authentic CBC and Radio-Canada audio and video to practise listening and everyday English or French. Its own FAQ confirms that it is free and intended for people in Canada; media rights restrict use outside Canada. Work through material at an appropriate level and combine it with real conversation or a local class when possible. This self-directed digital resource does not itself replace a LINC assessment, an approved immigration language test or a formal course credential. Use it as practice alongside the assessment or class required by the chosen programme.

This UK-based online resource offers adults English listening, reading, grammar and vocabulary practice organised by level. Its learning materials are free; registration enables additional library or community features. Paid structured courses are advertised separately, so distinguish free practice from a trial or a subscription. The approximate CEFR level test is not an official Canadian Language Benchmarks assessment or an immigration examination. Check current access conditions and use local settlement providers for Canadian programme advice.
